Fighting fuel poverty in Roubaix, the Foundation's project

Development of a community of local actors in Roubaix (Northern France) around fuel poverty

Fuel poverty: a multidimensional problem

About 20% of European households suffer from fuel poverty. Despite the numerous human and financial resources made available, the number of households suffering from fuel poverty continues to increase, and the non-use (i.e. the fact that people in precarious situations do not take advantage of available aids, either because they are unaware that they exist or because the procedures seem too complex) is significant, to the point that some funds are never even used. Fuel poverty is not an isolated problem: it is generally associated with other difficulties, particularly social and economic.

What collective response can we provide?

Innovating Otherwise

A story that perfectly sums up the Foundation's vocation: it took place in Roubaix in 2018.

During its Innovation Day in June 2018, the Rexel Foundation for a better energy future committed to launch an experiment in Roubaix.

Concerned with integrating the residents into the process, the Foundation aimed to understand the reality of fuel poverty, as seen by people in precarious situations as well as by the organizations in charge of fighting it. The Foundation has thus brought together all stakeholders around the issue, from local authorities to people in fuel poverty situations, in order to invent effective and efficient solutions to solve it.

Collective intelligence events and workshops started to take place in September 2018. They help to identify ways to get out of fuel poverty in Roubaix and to activate a network of local actors. These solutions are currently being deployed in the field, in an agile experimental format involving all stakeholders.

The Rexel Foundation puts people at the heart of its mission. Behind every project, there are faces and names, whether they are residents, our partners, or our collaborators. This is the guarantee and credibility of our commitment.
